AGH Physician Earns Internal Medicine Recertification

Edwin Castaneda, M.D., F.A.C.P., a Berlin internist and Chief of Medical Staff at Atlantic General Hospital, recently achieved his internal medicine recertification by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

As a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician completes recertification through the Board’s Maintenance of Certification program every ten years to ensure life-long learning and to provide his or her patients with the best quality care. The process is rigorous and can take several years to complete. Castaneda first received his diplomate status in 1997.

Castaneda is currently the medical director of the Diabetes Outpatient Education Program at Atlantic General Hospital and has served as the chairman of the Credentials and Medical Staff Quality Committees.

He is a clinical instructor for fourth-year medical students at the University of Maryland Medical School and for nurse practitioner students at Salisbury University. Castaneda is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American College of Physician Executives.

A graduate of St. Louis University Medical School, Castaneda completed residency training at Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J. He has been practicing internal medicine for thirteen years at Atlantic General Hospital. Previously, he was a hospitalist at Shore Health System’s Easton Memorial Hospital.

Castaneda lives in Ocean Pines with his wife, Jessie, and two children, Christian and Gabrielle.
