Atlantic General Hospital to Co-Sponsor 20th Annual AARP Health Fair

From the top of your head to the tips of your toes: Dozens of Atlantic General Hospital and Health System providers and physicians will be on-hand to provide health screenings and answer questions at this year’s Worcester County AARP Community Health Fair on April 12, 2006 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City.

Visitors age twelve and older are invited to take advantage of the wide variety of tests and health screenings that will be offered to guide them to a healthy lifestyle.

Atlantic General Hospital, which co-sponsors the event, will provide free lipid testing to the first 500 participants. The hospital’s mobile lab will also provide glucose testing, which can be used as an indicator for diabetes. Individuals must not eat or drink anything for twelve hours prior to testing to be eligible for either screening.

Men who are 50 or older are encouraged to sign up for the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test, administered for a minimal charge of $5.00. The PSA test is used to screen for the early stages of prostate cancer.

A host of Atlantic General Hospital and Health System professionals will be on hand to discuss their areas of expertise, such as pulmonary diseases, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, sleep disorders, women’s health, and joint replacement, and answer general health questions.

Oral cancer screenings, blood pressure screenings, diet and nutrition information, and diabetes education are just a few of the services offered at the health fair.
