If you live alone, wouldn't it be nice to have someone to talk to every day? Someone who cares?
What is the We-Care Program?
We-Care is a free program sponsored by the Atlantic General Hospital Auxiliary for people who live alone. We-Care provides an outside contact with a person once every 24 hours.
How do I join We-Care?
Call us at (410) 641-9678.
Is We-Care only for "old people"?
No. It is for anyone living alone in need of this service.
When do I call in?
You must call (410) 629-1879 every morning, including Saturday, Sunday and Holidays, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
What do I do if I will be away for a few days?
If you plan to be away, you must tell the We-Care volunteer the day before you plan to leave. If you find out late in the day, or forget, you may leave a message on the We-Care answering machine. To leave a message, call the regular We-Care number, (410) 629-1879 and wait for the signal. Please be sure to speak slowly and clearly.
What do I say when I call the answering machine?
Clearly state and spell your last name. Give your phone number, the day you are calling and your message. For example: This is Judy Jones, J-O-N-E-S, at (410) 555-1212 and it's Wednesday, July 4. I will be away three days beginning today and will call on Saturday as usual.
Why do you need my neighbor or emergency contact's name?
If you do not call and there is no answer when the volunteer calls, your neighbor or emergency contact may know why you didn't answer the phone. They must have a key in order to check on you. If you live in an apartment complex, the manager may be the person for us to call to check on you.
Who will come to my house if you think something is wrong?
By agreeing to the terms on the registration form, you authorize your neighbor, emergency contact or apartment manager to enter your home. If you have not left a message on the We-Care tape, cannot be reached by phone and your neighbor, emergency contact or apartment manager are unavailable, only then would the police be allowed to enter your home.
