Young and in Pain - Joint Replacement for the Young

Osteoarthritis pain of the knee and hip affects millions of Americans, preventing them from participating in many of the physical activities they enjoy.

More and more, younger, active men and women are developing osteoarthritis. Traditionally, it was felt that joint replacement surgery was not an option for these individuals.

Times are changing.

Newer prosthetic components and bearing surfaces now have the potential to relieve pain and to allow these younger and active patients to resume their previous level of activities.

Thomas Beck, DO, medical director of Atlantic General Hospital’s Center for Joint Surgery, will discuss osteoarthritis diagnosis and the treatment options available.

Non-surgical treatments as well as hip and knee replacement will be discussed, focusing on newer developments geared to the younger and active populations. Developments such as hip resurfacing, partial knee replacement, and newer bearing surfaces that have the potential to last longer will be covered.
