Hospital's 10th Annual Health Conference Slated for November 8

“Your Journey to Total Heath” to be held at Stephen Decatur High School

A person’s “Journey to Total Health” can take many paths. Atlantic General Hospital’s 10th Annual Visions for Total Health Conference, titled “Your Journey to Total Health,” is designed to help attendees navigate those paths.

This year’s conference will be held at Stephan Decatur High School on Saturday, November 8, from 8 am to 1 pm. Free health screenings and demonstrations will be offered in addition to eight breakout sessions on joint surgery options for the young and active patient; Medicare Part D; diabetes prevention and treatment; naturopathic treatments for menopause; chiropractic care; acupuncture; skin cancer; and healing through yoga, meditation and Reiki.

Health screenings, such as pulmonary testing; stroke risk; cholesterol, glucose and PSA tests (which require a 12 hour fast); and vision, hearing, skin and foot checks, will be offered from 8 am to 10 am.

The halls will be lively with more than 60 vendors. Demonstrations of different types of dance exercise, healthy cooking and tai chi will be available. Attendees can take a break to receive free massage, reflexology and Reiki therapy treatments as they stroll through the vendors’ services.

Promising to make you laugh will be the keynote speaker, Carol Moore, MSN from “Humor Helps.” She is a registered nurse who believes in the power of therapeutic humor to decrease stress, improve health, lessen pain and improve your quality of life. Moore speaks around the country, teaching individuals how to deal with life’s up and downs through humor.

Other speakers include orthopedic surgeon Tom Beck, M.D.; Dr. Madhumi Mitra from UMES; Dr. Tracy Rush from Healing Hands Chiropractics; naturopathist Dr. Kim Furtado; Matthew Young, L.A.; Darlene Jameson, RD; diabetes educator Darby Schaub, NP; Mimi Dean with the Worcester County Health Department; Becky Jones, MSN; and pharmacist Steve Marcalus from Coastal Drug Center.

The day promises to be full and exciting. The conference is generously supported by Atlantic General Hospital, AGH Medical Staff, Atlantic General Hospital JAG, ABC Printers, Apple Discount Drugs, Allergan, Inc., Clear Channel Outdoor, Parties Your Way, Shore Woman and Worcester Health Department.
